Free Meals for All Students

Here’s why this is great for our students:
Parents/guardians are crucial decision-makers in the school environment and want the best educational experience for their children. However, not every child is prepared to learn in the morning due to lack of sleep, bus schedules, or lateness. With parents/guardians busier than ever, providing breakfast at school helps prepare students for a successful day.
Concerns Addressed:
- Your Child Already Eats at Home: It is wonderful if your family has time to eat breakfast together. However, if children eat breakfast on the run or have a long bus ride, they may be hungry by the time they arrive at school. The School Breakfast Program ensures a healthy option is always available.
- Lack of Time: Mornings can be hectic. School breakfast is an option when schedules are rushed or a child cannot eat early in the morning. Parents/guardians can ensure their children are fed before school by using the School Breakfast Program.
- Cost: Not to worry, School Breakfast is free!
- Child Not Hungry: Children may have different hunger cycles and might not be ready to eat when breakfast is served at home. Serving breakfast at school helps students focus during morning classes.
- Socializing: School breakfast offers an opportunity for students to eat with siblings and classmates in a non-threatening environment. This time allows children to socialize and learn from one another.
Why School Breakfast?
There is a strong link between breakfast and learning. When breakfast is available at school, students have improved attendance, decreased tardiness, and fewer discipline referrals. The few minutes spent on breakfast can significantly enhance students' participation and performance.
Studies Show:
“Children who ate breakfast at school scored notably higher on most of the tests than children who ate breakfast at home and children who did not eat breakfast.”
-- Archives of Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine, October, 1996
Students eating school breakfast resulted in:
- Higher scores on assessment tests
- Positive effects from eating breakfast in the classroom vs. the cafeteria
- Increased math and reading scores
- Fewer nurse’s office visits
- Improved classroom behavior and attentiveness
- Decreased student absences and tardiness
- Improved performance reported by parents/guardians
